If you know someone thinking about having an alternative hen party why not send them a link to this one. I know Becky’s hens will back me up in saying a fabulous time was had by all!  Imagine walking in stunning scenery, drinking Champagne and Sparkling Rosé wine and skinny dipping in magical caves. All followed by dinner at a fabulous Spanish restaurant sound good? As hen days go this was definitely one to remember!

The Sierra de las Nieves is a great region to explore full of impressive mountains, caves and the Rio Grande.

Don’t forget to make your ‘Bride to Be’ a beautiful wild flower headdress!! Bind some bendy green sticks with strong grasses to make your base. Weave in your wildflowers binding as necessary as you go and Voilà!

When I saw what a pretty frame the trees and frothy white cow parsley flowers made I just had to grab Becky for a few Pre-Raphaelitesque photos.

Not one to shirk her Maid of Honor duties Steph had done her research and subjected Becky to a Mr & Mrs quiz…

Rebecca & James | The Interview

ruthjoyphotography_wedding_gallery030Tell us about the proposal:

Rebecca: In a play park, one rainy day in Hampshire.. I was 6 months pregnant. Three years later, he sent our daughter in with the ring, while I was having a bath. She said ‘Daddy says he loves you very much and will you married with him’?

James, what made you choose Becky to be your Wife?

Wasn’t really a conscious choice – I just knew as soon as we met.

Rebecca, what made you choose James to be your husband?

He is devilishly handsome and keeps our paperwork in excellent order.

What moment was the highlight of the day for you?

Rebecca: The look on James’ face when we all walked down the garden path.

James: Seeing Becks in her dress for the first time, walking down the path towards me.

What did you enjoy most about your wedding?

Rebecca: Seeing people we love, together, having a ball!

James: Seeing so many friends and family in the same place at the same time.

What advice would you give to couples thinking of organising a similar day to yours?

Rebecca: Surrender to the craziness. Don’t try and control every detail. On the day, hand over the reins to someone else.

James: Delegate jobs to friends and family, or hire a wedding planner!

Which is your favourite image from the blog and what does it mean to you?

Rebecca: Oooh, that’s really tough! I love the one where James and I are laughing when he’s putting the ring on my finger. She has captured the joy we felt in that moment.  The image of the girls and me sitting in the bedroom is gorgeous too. I love the lighting and the mood.

James: Me, Andy (best man) and Mike (usher) walking up the path – It means that even 30 years on and 2000 miles away, true friendship lasts.

What did you like best about having Dave and Ruth Photograph your wedding?

Rebecca: They are both true artists and capture the magic and mood of people and places. They make you feel very comfortable, and are not at all pushy.

James: They were extremely organised and had a great photo schedule, but at the same time were very flexible and able to “go with the flow”.  The results were fantastic!

Ben and Natalie chose their incredibly romantic Bluebell Wood ‘first kiss’ location for their pre-wedding photoshoot last weekend. The Outwoods, near Loughborough made a beautiful backdrop and the sunshine came out to play! We met Ben and Natalie at the St Peter’s Centre where they are getting married later this year and heard all about their exciting plans before heading off in search of bluebells, we were not disappointed…

Bluebell Wood Engagement PhotographyI had been looking for a place to take a silhouette profile shot inspired by a Victorian portrait cameo I saw recently, so when I saw the delicate frame the trees made I knew we had found our perfect location!

Walking back to the car I noticed the light through the trees was particularly magical so we grabbed some back lit shots and embraced the lens flare!

Finding your Inner Diva for International Women’s Day 2014

Dave and I had a great time photographing the Diva Dance girls performing in Luton on Easter Saturday. Luton Sixth Form College and Wardown Park provided the backdrop for the powerful, sexy and empowering routine choreographed by Ish from Ish Dance Fusion in her unique fusion style.

Earlier this year Ish Dance Fushion launched a unique course which offered women  the opportunity to be part of a dance video and photoshoot to celebrate International Women’s Day 2014, The concept behind the course was to build confidence and inspire self expression through strong, powerful dance movements.  After weeks of hard work the girls came together to perform in front of the cameras. Videographers David Reilly and Joe Cook, two inspiring short film makers looked after the filming whilst Dave and myself took the stills and gave the girls mini portrait sessions.

Congratulations to Sara, Becca, Nadia, Esurubelle, Daniella, Shumana, Salma and Shumzy you are now officially Divas of the highest order!!

Our first location was the basketball court at Luton Sixth Form College. It was the first time we had seen Ish and her Divas perform their high energy routine – the many weeks of rehearsals paid off and they looked fantastic in leather jackets and killer heels!

Check out those heels!!! I would struggle to walk in them let alone dance – I was very impressed!

Location three and the girls were still going strong. This time we had a costume change and found these fantastic green garage doors to create the perfect background for their brightly coloured tops.

Time to bust out the off camera flash to add some extra drama!

In between dancing some of the girls had individual portrait sessions. It was hard to choose just one shot of each to blog as they looked so beautiful and strong in all their shots.

After nearly five hours of dancing Ish still had energy for a portrait shoot – We captured her looking stunning using a mixture of off camera flash and reflectors and experimented with a mixture of natural and urban look backgrounds.

Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley :  Styled Wedding Shoot Part 2

For the second shoot organised by Jaye and Shelly at the Be. Photography Wedding Photography Workshop we photographed the beautiful Eve. Shelly encouraged us to explore the ‘dark side’ as we created our images in the most wonderfully styled lift shaft you’ve ever seen! This shoot focused on carefully crafting the light to create dramatic photographs with a touch of fashion.

After exploring all sorts of possibilities I wanted to try creating images with a similar feel in other locations so we all traipsed outside. The following photos were taken right outside the ladies loo as it happened to be where the light was the most beautiful! So take heart if your photographer asks you to pose in what seems like an odd place – if the light is right your images will look stunning!

I must confess a weakness for vintage crockery – So pretty!

Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley :  Styled Wedding Shoot Part 1

I love all things floral and this Flower Crown by Alice and Rose was just perfect for Rachel one of our lovely models at the Be. wedding photography workshop. The rustic interior of the Sunny Bank Mills Archive in Farsley, Leeds made a great backdrop for the talented stylists to work their magic. The natural light spilled through the old glass roof onto Rachel and Phil who really were a joy to photograph. These two got married last year and their love for one another really shone through.
